Brief Answer:
Amniocentesis testing for SC.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
There is no a method of preventing a child from having a SC. The only test that can be done is amniocentesis ( testing the amniotic fluid) screening for SC.
If the foetus is positive then you can think about abortion.

Brief Answer:
Very few side effects.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
During the pregnancy two tests can be performed amniocentesis ( cells collected from amniotic fluid or chorionic villi sampling(protusions of placenta sampling). Both provide genetical material from foetus to screen for sickle cell anemia.
You can find if your child has sickle cell anemia, is a carer or is free from disease.
It is your decision if you want to continue this pregnancy or not. Both these procedures don't have many side effects and have a very low percentage of abortion.
