Question: Hello -

I started with diarrhoea overnight last night and have also been nauseous and vomited a couple of times.

My diarrhoea is bright red. I have some soreness from the tummy down but no discomfort in passing it.

Brief Answer:
Acute gastroenteritis likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing 'Ask a Doctor' service for your query,
I've read your details and I appreciate your concerns,

Your symptoms refer mostly to acute gastroenteritis (infection of bowels).

- For the time being, I'd suggest to drink more water, take tasectan, probiotics to stop diarrhea and oral rehydration salts (O.R.S) for dehydration.

If your diarrhea does not have any improvement within a couple of days, then, should go for some more investigations to identify the real culprit. I'd suggest, then, to do an abdominal ultrasound, fecal examination for ova/parasites bacteria, leucocytes in feces, and complete blood profile.

However, as the color of the stool is bright red a test called stool for occult blood must be done to look into it further.

To control nausea take over the counter Ondansetron (Zofran) 4mg thrice daily can be taken.

Monitor your pulse and blood pressure 12 hourly.
If upper blood pressure systolic is less then 90 mmHg or pulse is more then 110 per minute contact emergency care service.

With every vomiting or loose motion, you should drink 250ml of oral rehydration solution or electoral.

Take home-cooked bland diet.

Follow-ups are welcome.
Hope I was easy to understand and helpful.

Thanks
Get well soon.
