Have Had Blood Sugar Test. Does It Point Towards Diabetes?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Aug 2013
Question: Pre-Prandial:
Blood sugar - 86mg%
Urine - nil

Post-Prandial: (after 2 hrs)
Blood sugar - 121mg%
Urine - nil

Hba1c - 6.2

So, does this point to pre-diabetes and/or ternding towards diabetes?
I'm visiting India and the normal values for a1c as per the testing lab are 4-7%...but in the US the normal range is below 5.6.
Am confused and stressed?
Can some one please answer this?

Hello,

Welcome to XXXXXXX Thanks for the query.

HbA1c can be interpreted differently in different category of patients.

1. NONDIABETIC 4 - 6 %

2.DIABETIC 6.5 % or higher

3. PREDIABETIC 5.7 - 6.4 %.

This is standardised all over the world.

According to your HbA1c you are in the Prediabetic stage.

What it means that you have a increase risk of developing Diabetes sooner or later in your life.

Hope the answer helps you.
