Brief Answer:
Improving blood supply to brain will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing in.

The dysphagia which follows stroke is due to damage of the brain centers which regulate the function of swallowing. Since it is a central cause medications may no work so well or at all especially when the stroke is 15 months old. She will have to be fed by peg for quite some time. The main aims in treating such patients is through
1. Physiotherapy.
2. Good nutrition through peg.
3. Improving the blood supply to the brain to aid in overall improvement of functions. This can be done as per the merits of the case and the presence of other medical problems such as hypertention, heart disease etc.
Various therapies are
a. brain vasodilators
b. hyperbaric oxygen therapy or hbot.
HBOt is particularly recommendable as this will improve the blood supply to the damaged parts of the brain. 3 to 4 sessions will undoubtedly bring about improvement. Discuss about the various options with the treating doctor.

I hope this answers your doubt.
