Had Diet Caffeine Soda, Taking Tussin. Coughing, Can Cough Medicine Be Taken?

Question: I had a 20 oz. diet caffeine soda about 45 minutes ago, and I have been taking Tussin DM during the day (last one was at 4:30). I am coughing and want to know if it's ok to take the cough medicine.
