Good Morning, My Name Is XXXXXXX And I've Been Running

Question: Good Morning, My name is XXXXXXX and I've been running a low grade fever for six days usually feeling at my worst in the early morning and in the evenings. I have been able to manage it by alternating Advil and Tylenol throughout the day. On day three and four the fever spiked over 102 with me feeling cold and sweating at times. The first night I was running the fever I noticed I was getting up to urinate every hour with difficulty finishing. I haven't had the urge to urinate as often as the first night but I am having the urge to go a lot more often then normal and not always feeling like I've completed going. Sometimes having to go back to the bathroom several minutes later to finish. I also notice my urine is cloudy and has a strange / strong odor. One last issue is the very tip of my penis gets a tingling feeling before and after urinating. I'm a 56 year old male in very good health. Should I use a urologist or my general physician? I see my urologist two times a year for check-ups and to renew my medication (androgel) and my general physician every other month to renew my medication (vyvance). Please advise...

Brief Answer:
Probably a urinary tract infection, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a urinary tract infection.

I recommend you to do a urinalysis and a complete blood count to confirm the diagnosis.

If the diagnosis is confirmed the treatment consists in antibiotics.

In my daily practice, I recommend Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day for five days.

It is a prescription medication, so you should consult your doctor before the treatment.

I also recommend to drink a lot of water, especially cranberry juice.

For the fever you can continue taking Tylenol every six hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
