For How Long After Circumcision Should Bactroban Ointment Be Used?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jul 2015
Question: I have recently had a circumcision. One area of the wound was a little red and sore looking. I went to see my GP who prescribed Bactroban ointment to be used 3 times a day. He also did a swab. The result of the swab was 'normal bacteria'. The wound looked significantly better after about 6 days of applying the cream. It is now day 10 and I am still applying 3 times a day. Should I stop now, or for how long should I continue. Thanks

Brief Answer:
upload an image , please. 10 days usually enough.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

10 days application of bactroban is usually enough and no more application is usually required if the wound has healed properly. If appropriate, then you can upload a good quality image of the region involving the wound to have a better look at it and comment further.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

I have uploaded image as a report. As can be seen I believe the redness has gone along the scar line thanks to the application of the cream. There appears a little 'nodule' near the middle. Will this go away? Also, at the top of the penis head there is a little peeling. Should I apply anything to the head to help this? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Thanks for uploading the image.

You don't need to worry about the nodules or bumps as they are a normal occurrence and become prominent with an injury or excess manipulation. The peeling at the tip is due to dryness. Try to avoid soap when washing / cleaning the penis. You can use a hypoallergenic and glutathione soap with a moisturizing effect. Polyfax ointment or petroleum jelly can be applied to the peeled of area to keep it oily rather than dry.
