For Around A Year I Have Been Having Problems In

Question: For around a year I have been having problems in the am. I would try to eat a normal breakfast for me, Low sugar high protein. I have never tolerated sweet well since I had my Insulinoma and surgery in 1965. It had gotten to my only drinking a protein drink to be able to start the day. If I eat any more I get so sleepy and groggy I can't stay awake. I now look and feel like a drunk. I stagger around lay down before I fall down for my bed. It is no more just in the am but any meal. I don't have to eat much at a meal for this to happen in fact I am getting afraid to eat. I had reactive hyperglycemia but not like this. I am aware that when I left University of MI. I would likely become a Diabetic when I get older.

Brief Answer:
Require further evaluation. Kindly follow up with a bit more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, there can be several causes which should get evaluated. So kindly follow up with a bit more information.

Please let me know do you have symptoms like increased thirst, frequent urination, weight gain, dry skin, constipation, swelling over face, abdominal pain?
Do you have allergy to any foods or are you getting enough sleep at night?

For further assessment, you may require complete hemogram, thyroid profile, fasting and postprandial sugar levels with HbA1c after detailed medical examination and physician's opinion to rule out any other possibilities like hypothyroidism, anemia or sleep apnea as you had already checked for insulinoma.

Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. Till then kindly do blood sugar level at least three times a day before meal and after 2 hrs and follow up with readings. Do regular blood pressure monitoring.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale

this am I took my BS before breakfast and it was 92. I had started to feel foggy and disorientated and unsteady on my feet. 30 min. an after I drank my shake I took my BS again and it was 58. I didn't believe it so I took it again and it was 60. I called my DR and told the nurse the results and if the Dr. didn't want to work with me I find another. He gave me a referral to an Endocrinologist. My Dr had been very rude to me when I had tried to talk to him about my problem.

Brief Answer:
Please see detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

As per your history, it may be due to hypoglycemia as sugar level of 58 or, 60 are on lower side.

So I would suggest you to fasting insulin level, computed tomography abdomen and other investigations as suggested earlier after endocrinologist consultation and follow up with reports.

Along with that take balanced diet and watch for symptoms of hypoglycemia like dizziness, shakiness, sweating. At that time take 2 to 3 times in teaspoon of sugar immediately.

Let me know I can assist you further... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale
