Every Time I Weed Wack The Yard, I Get Shaking

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Oct 2019
Question: Every time I weed wack the yard, I get shaking of the hands, weakness in the shoulders, and fatigue. As well as the stuffy nose. I know I have a strong allergy to all grasses, and am doing allergy shots weekly. Yesterday, I had to cut down a large area of tall very dry grass and have been dealing with the shakes ever since. Is this an allergic reaction?

Brief Answer:
Shakiness is not a common presentation of allergies but it may happen if there is low blood pressure or due to the medications used in allergies

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

Shaking is not a common presentation of an allergic reaction. Only if, because of an allergic reaction and the low blood pressure resulting from it, the patient may feel unwell like fainting and may feel shaky.

Shakiness may also happen as a side effect of medications for the allergic reaction, in case you have been using such medications. For instance, antihistamines (such as Benadryl), epinephrine and steroids may all cause tremor (or shakiness) as a possible side effect.

To conclude:

- Shakiness is not a common presentation of an allergic reaction but some patients may feel shaky if the blood pressure is low (similar to when you feel like fainting). Make sure you do drink plenty of water and do not change positions quickly (do not stand up abruptly)
- Medications used to treat an allergic reaction may cause patients, in rare cases, to have tremors (shakiness). Make sure you use them in the right way (proper dose) according to the instructions.
- If you continue to feel shaky even 2-3 days after the episode or if you are getting any worse, it may be best to have a visit to rule out other causes of shakiness.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

I wish you good health.
