Every Day For The Last Week I Start Getting Allergy/flu-like

Question: Every day for the last week I start getting allergy/flu-like symptoms symptoms right around 3-4 pm. They feel like the symptoms I had when I first started taking Brand-name Lamictal 15 years ago (It was added to the celexa I was taking), but a little worse.

The same thing happened last December, after I weaned of the small amounts of Celexa and Klonopin I would take at night. I remember it clearly, trying to figure out what it was as I wasn't sick and it happened every day at the same time.

This year I am taking 5mg lexapro and .25 mgs of clonazepam at night, and then in the morning 100mgs lamictal and eventually 50 mgs modafinil a little later.

I can't help but think it's from the lamictal and it gets worse later in the day when the klonopin washes out of my system. I don't know really...I have strange reactions to meds

Brief Answer:
Could be Lamotrigine

Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for using ask a doctor service

Do you have symptoms like rashes on skin?

Flu like symptoms could be due to mild withdrawal or Escitalopram or this can be due to Lamictal but this should be evaluated properly. Skin rash is one of important and serious side effect of Lamotrigine. This usually develop when the drug is started in a patient or it’s doses are increased. This should be checked properly.

Thanks

I have gotten itchy rashes on hands and feet when changing celexa dosage in the past.

I am going to skip my lamictal dose today to see if i don't get the burning in the eyes and throat.

Interestingly, taking 5mgs of propranolol seems to abate a lot of these symptoms. I cannot explain why or how.

Cheers

Skipped Lamictal dose today until 4:30 pm will no symptoms. Symptoms (pain behind eyes, throat, head) occurred in 90-120 mins after finally taking the dose

Brief Answer:
Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Response to Propranolol is pointing that this could be part of anxiety. But that will not explain the reason of rashes.

It is common to see flu like symptoms in SSRI withdrawal also.

Thanks
