I have a red rash on penis

Hello I had few questions

Please refer to this question

http://www.healthcaremagic.com/AskDoctorInboxServlet?page=viewQuery&queryId=246504

I had asked you

Yesterday trying to do some natural therapy and knew Turmeric helps eczema/psoriasis I applied to my penis skin. Overnight it got worse and formed a small ulcer. I had tried using turmeric in mouth to cool inflammation. Howevr it seems to have made it worse
I am confused ? is it due to sensitive skin on glans. Last time one of the doctor had asked me to clean it with hydrogen peroxide where there was some bacterial infection, instead that made it worse

what is this strange problem ? why turmeric should create inflammation rather than helping it.I thought the red patch may go away, instead it got worse

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Local irritation, likely to clear by stopping further exposure

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear Sir,

Thanks for posing a query.

It is well known that vegetable juices contain ingredients that can irritate skin, especially of areas that have delicate linings like genitals.

On stoppage of the irritant, the skin is likely to revert to normal gradually.

I would suggest to anyone with this profile to start using an antiallergic like Levocetrizine 5 mg a day to relieve itching and to aid in recovery.

You are requested to not apply the irritant again.

This should help you i dealing with the concerns.

Best wishes

Hello My Dear

I have reviewed all the five pics and the overall impression is that the lesions should heal best by following the advice that was suggested in the last post.

I hope you will be careful not to use anything on the sensitive skin that can irritate.

I would like to hear from you about progress in a few days.

They healed in the past when I had applied anti bacterial (neosporin) and anti inflammatory cream like triamcinolone acetonide, they healed in 3-4 days. I had similar problems a month ago when I applied Hydrogen peroxide and it formed painful ulcer, after applying the above two they healed.

Can psoriasis /eczema if you apply things like Turmeric or Hydrogen peroxide form painful ulcers ?. I thought these two things will help penis skin like the skin on your hand. If you apply them on hand or ulcer in mouth they heal. Why they don't heal penile skin ?. Is that the skin is different and more sensitive ?. I am really surprised. Why it did not work on penis skin unlike it works quickly in mouth ulcer when you gargle.

Is this eczema ? Psoriasis ?

Please see attached picture
I am applying triamcinolone acetonide and neospoirn.

Brief Answer:
Some substances can be harmful

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir

Welcome.

The healing process depends upon many factors apart from the agents used for the purpose.

I do not consider myself qualified enough to state about uses of Turmeric which is a herbal product and I provide suggestions to best help my patients using my professional knowledge and experience. Hydrogen peroxide is used to wash away the slough.

There is a greater probability of lesions being those of psoriasis. In psoriasis, ther is tendency of formation of fresh lesions on the sites of injury, chemical or otherwise, and I advise my patients to desist from using any agent that might irritate the skin.

The attached picture confirms my previous finding that it is more favorable to being Psoriasis.

You can be hopeful to stay healthy and follow the best preventative measures.

My best wishes

so this does not appear to be anything serious to worry about and will heal once I apply hyrocortizone cream triamcinolone acetonide, it did in the past when I had similar thing happened after applying hydrogen peroxide, it healed in 3-4 days . This latest injury and red inflamed spots were after I applied turmeric because I wanted to try out few natural things like coconut oil or tumeric and see if it helps rather than applying steroids, however it really became inflamed after I applied turmeric.

I was worried about EQ and other pictures that show up on internet. However the tendency to form quick painful ulcer that subside after applying neosporin or some corticosteroids mean this is not EQ or anything like that. I assume so

Another doctor had told it could be Seborrheic dermatitis as well, eczema but you think it is psoriasis ?. I do have patches of psoriasis in armpit and scrotum

Brief Answer:
Staying away from self medication is the best option

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

You are very right in stating that sometimes these heal up and not so at other times. This does not lead us to an understanding the true nature of lesions and these lesions should not be disturbed by application of irritants. For now, letting them heal in natural way is the best option.

It is advisable to not worry too much about what is available on the internet and have faith in your own capability to contact the right person and follow advice seriously and discuss your readings in person. I want that you should get durable and safe recovery. I will help you in that objective.

Let your progress be discussed with your personal physician from time to time as direct examination provides good amount of information that can be missed otherwise.

Best wishes

It's already healed, no pain and ulcer is gone. However there is redness. This red patch never seem to go away as discussed in the earlier question, the pain goes away but read ring remains and there is no pain. I don't know if this red ring will be permanent feature and may never go away. If there is any irritation that happens like the turmeric I put in causes 3-4 small ulcers, but they healed in 2 days, the pain is gone, last time also two months ago, there was similar issue after I tried to clean with hydrogen peroxide, afte rubbing some neosporin and triamcinolone acetonide for couple of days, pain was gone, red ring remained although they faded little bit, but no pain

Avoidance of irritants and waiting for sometime will be the best options

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

Welcome.
I understand your concerns. Here are few suggestions which will be of great help:

1 Redness may take long but the area needs to be kept protected from irritants like turmeric. Once allowed to heal utilizing body's defense mechanisms, the recovery should be durable.

2 Such lesions may at times need to be palpated which requires in person examination of not only this area but inguinal glands. All doctors can do this on the presenting patient.

3 It is good that you are staying away from self medication. Please adopt this a s policy for future too.

Best wishes.

Could you please clarify, is that due to infection possibilities ? why will it impact inguinal glands ? I am confused ? what is the reason for this ?. If the lesion is so much superficial and if there is no pain or infection

Brief Answer:
Glands can give a clue to recurrence

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

I have studied the new pic and think that the cause of repeated occurrence should be thoroughly investigated. Examination of inguinal glands is part of the routine general physical examination which serve this area. There is a possibility that it can be due to an infection. Infections tend to manifest without significant perceptible pain when steroids like Triamcinolone have been applied due to powerful anti inflammatory properties of this class of drugs.

As our objective is to keep you safe and healthy, you are advised to have a thorough examination conducted and be assured that your progress is on course.

Best wishes

redness/small mild ulcer and pain showed up only after I had applied dry Turmeric for almost a day and tried to clean it up with hydrogen peroxide, the small blisters formed, however by applying Triamcinolone and neosporin just for day it cleared up next day and ulcers are gone, pain is also gone. There is no pain now. I discontinued both Triamcinolone and neosporin after applying for just one day

I suspect there is some dermatitis in that area since anything irritating I applied on it caused pain, otherwise I have no pain issues, the skin red color changes from one day to next, once the irritation fades it becomes more pinkish. Please see my previous pictures I had posted prior

Please see the latest picture and compare with the pictures that had small ulcer two days ago, the ulcers are gone. See the picture 5 days ago before I applied turmeric, when there was not that much redness.

Please refer to previous thread

when you said this could be psoriasis because I have in my arm pit and groin.

Other high possibility is balanitis due to dermatological issues. If you closely see the the stretch marks in the inflamed skin, cris-cross lines, slightly elevated sometimes pink and when irritation happens due to something like tumeric or hydrogen peroxide may point to non specific balanitis that remains painless as long as there is no irritation and as soon as some irritants are applied, it forms small ulcers or the lesions get red. Then heals after applying creams and neosporin.

Pictures are helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have reviewed all the details submitted and these confirm the earlier status.

However, it would be advisable to avoid any substance or chemical in the area. As you have psoriasis elsewhere, you are more prone to develop psoraitic lesions due to Koebnerization (Development of fresh new lesions on areas subjected to injury).

Staying safe is good under all circumstances.

All the best. You are going to improve in all likelihood.

Ok, It seems that there are 2-3 areas on that red ring that tend to have small ulcer if there is any irritation. They form and then fade. when they are formed due to irritation, it's painful, once they heal there is no pain, the faded RED band stays there. When it's inflamed there is pain and some small itching, but once they heal, there is nothing. I also had psoriasis on my ankles 8 years ago and the pigmented marks are still there. Do you think that red band is hyper pigmentation residue that stays there after lesions are healed, however if there is any irritation those weakened 2-3 spots where psoriasis is still there, form small ulcers ?. I read multiple sites the red psoriasis tend to have RED lesions on penis and have shiny/glazed appearance because of moisture and covered skin of glans

This started two and half months ago when I was traveling and did not take bath for few days due to long flight hours and then the red ring appeared. Until then there was nothing. It may have started as balanitis due to psoriasis with 2-3 inflamed spots, they end up having small ulcer when there is irritation and then they heal later.

I do not want to apply any steroids. I noticed applying virgin coconut oil helps

Please see the attached picture taken today

Brief Answer:
Psoriasis on penile surface shows little or no scaling

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have seen the pics and details.

Psoriasis tends to be have no or little scaling when lesions occur on penile shaft or glans. You have already stated the reason that it is due to moisture and skin covering the lesions.

Red band is likely due to redness caused by increased blood vessels, a part of psoriasis features.

Inadequate hygiene can cause redness.

Steroids are to be avoided as much as possible. Coconut oil can be used.

Hope you make best use of information.

Best wishes

Thank you
so you are now think this is psoriasis and nothing serious to worry about. This whole thing has caused me to lose sleep and worry so much thinking worse looking at the internet pictures of EQ, Bowen's disease and Zoon balanitis. I tend to think for worse for some strange reason and worry a lot that something is wrong, sort of hear of ill health and something bad. Things then get blown out of promotion and I get obsessed over it especially if the diseases does not fade away.

I have oral lichen planus in mouth, but nothing on skin, lichen planus gets on genital, but this is not lichen planus I am 100% sure because there are no straie white lines, looks more like dermatitis. I get lot of skin diseases that worries me, otherwise my health and all other things are fine. This skin problems make my fear worse

I will just follow simple things like coconut oil. You can see the RED band appearance changes from time to time. I will update the situation for cuouple of days more and post picture so that you can see if healing has happened and I know it is getting better, there is no pain now and red lesions are smaller

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Your concerns are a priority

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You have analyzed the situation well.
The lesions look closer to psoriasis and presence of psoriasis elsewhere lends further support to this.
Lichen Planus is not possibility based on pics.

Relaxation and patience will help in dealing with the situation which seems far from anything worth anxiety. Red band may seem to exhibit variations due to sensitive skin of this area.

Have a good time
