Question: Does this mole removal look like it’s healing properly? It’s been 3 weeks since removed by plastic surgeon and the wound appears to be reopening. It gets then worst again. Will it close and fill in?

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion, the healing in this wound may be not proper. The picture shows, that it needs to be cleaned & dressed. Perhaps it may be infected & may need a course of antibiotics. You may be needed a culture & sensitivity test of the wound scraping or wound fluid,if any.

I went to the plastic surgeon who told me the redness is normal. Wouldn’t I feel pain If it was infected? Now I’m worried.

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Normally there must be pain, swelling & redness around an infected wound.Your plastic surgeon is right in telling that some redness may persist around the wound, even without infection. However,if any wound does not show signs of healing within 4 weeks& complete healing is not there within 8 weeks, then it may be termed as delayed healing or a chronic wound & in such cases, medical intervention may be advised.Still, prior to this, you may try these home remedies.
1-A moist healing environment has been clinically proven to aid in wound healing process & repair of damaged skin in superficial wounds.Elastoplast wound healing ointment creates a breathable protective film to help in superficial wound healing regeneration/repair of damaged skin cells.
2- Also, increased blood supply to the affected area will help in speedy healing. Therefore, use of warm compresses is an easy way to increase the blood supply of wound area & hence promote healing.
You may try both home remedy tips, which may give you desired results.
