Does Sulphalzine For Rheumatoid Arthritis Have Any Effects On Sperm Count?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: HI I was detected with low sperm count & mortality (about 10%-20%) in February.
Doctor put me on Maxozal-L (2 packets/day) & Fertomid 25mg/day.
The results in may show further reduced Sperm count (from 25 to 9).
I am also on Sulphalzine (Sazo 500mg) 2 per day since last 7 years for Rheumotoid arthirtis. Want to know if 2.5 months is sufficient time for monitoring change in sperm count? Could be erratic to see reduced count? Is sazo counteracting to reduce spern count & motility

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. You guessed it right. Sulfazine has probably resulted in low sperm count and other parameters like motility.

2. This drug is known to decrease sperms in men.

3. Maxoza or any antioxidants may not help to increase it.

4. Discuss about changing this drug with your doctor.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi THanks for your revert.
Given my current state, my rhemutalogist is ok with me not taking Sazo for next 2-3 months provided I ensure I exercise.

So, with no Sulpalazine intake now, what could be the options to improve sperm count/motility? Also, how much time does it generally take for count to improve?

Brief Answer:
3 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It takes about 3 months for sperm count to show results. So please get tested after 3 months to check if there is improvement.

Meanwhile have balanced diet and good excercise. Wear loose or no undergarment. Dont sit for long in a place. Take frequent walks.

If you want to go for pregnancy soon then you can opt for ICSI treatment which is extended part of IVF or Tedt tube baby programme.
