Does Sudden Movement Of Head Cause Pressure In Head?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: Is it normal to occasionally feel a pressure change in your head when you make a sudden movement?I should add that I have been having alot of headaches, particularly on top of my head on the right side. The doctors I have seen have put my symptoms down to anxiety, and i have noticed today that the headaches have been less severe, but this evening I made a sudden movement to stand up and I felt a pressure change momentarily in the area where the headaches have often been, (the top right side of my head) I just wondered if I should be concerned? Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Vertigo and orthostasis need to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

The symptom described by you could be related to two conditions in my opinion, they are:
-Orthostatic hypotension: Drop in blood pressure when an individual changes their posture (thus also called postural hypotension)
-Vertigo: condition in which the patient experiences the environment around him/her to be moving or spinning. Particularly more when individual changes position or makes swift movements

Either of these conditions can easily be treated but is often missed during examination. I would recommend you to revisit your doctor and request them to rule out these two conditions.

I understand how you must be skeptical about a doctors visit as they feel your symptoms are related to anxiety, but you will need a doctor to diagnose you in order to seek appropriate treatment. I am sure your doctors will carefully rule out or diagnose the cause for your symptoms ma'am.

In the meantime, stay calm and please feel free to write to me regarding any complaints or symptoms you have. I hope you find my response helpful, please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.

Thank you for your reply. I just wondered if its normal to feel these conditions in the same area that I have experienced the headaches. Do these symptoms relate in any way to a brain tumour? Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Yes it is normal; brain tumour unlikely ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Thank you for your response.

It would be considered normal if you are experiencing these symptoms in the same region as both these conditions result in a particular type of headache called migraine headaches which quite accurately resemble the appearance of your headache.

As for brain tumour, it is unlikely ma'am. But as doctors, we have been taught a certain protocol which includes always ruling out the worst at the very beginning. Due to this, your doctors would/should suggest an MRI or CT scan of the head to make sure we are dealing with simpler conditions like vertigo, migraine headaches or orthostatic hypotension.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative ma'am. Please do not hesitate to write back to me as many times as needed. I am always available to help.

Best wishes.
