Does Spinal Stenosis Cause Spike In Blood Pressure?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: i was on 5 mg of ramiprill for 6 years. BP always 120/80. Suddenly, BP XXXXXXX to 150/110. My doctor put me on 10 mg a day; 5mg in the morning and 5 at night. After a week of this regimen, my bp has been lowered to 140/95, still high. Then he switched me to 50mg Losartan and after 5 days, still no change. Averaging about 135/92. Will it take time for the Losartan to work? Also, I have spinal stenosis which is causing me to be slightly irritable. Not sure if that could possibly be the cause of the BP spike, but I doubt it.

Brief Answer:
Spinal stenosis indirectly causing BP spikes...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. Your goal for blood pressure (bp) is lower than 140/90; Your average bp is 135/92, so it falls within normal range

2. It will take longer than 5 days to get results from Losartan use (up to a couple of months). I advise to measure your bp, record the results and send them to your doctor for further analysis (or you can send to me).

3. If after 1 month, there is no change in bp, then, should increase Losartan dosage or switch to another medication.

4. Diuretics are advised to start. Discuss this further with your doctor.

5. There are many factors causing increased bp including foods/drinks you consume until the medical conditions you might have (e.g spinal stenosis).

You are reporting that this condition is causing you to be slightly irritable. This irritability is recognized as stress situation by your body. In return, your body reacts through stress hormones that would increase bp.

Try to discuss your spinal stenosis with an orthopedist and to get some pain relief.

Hope it helped!

Brief Answer:
Not only, other factors to be considered...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

No, your BP is not only due to your age, but due to the fact that you are taking anti-hypertensive drug (ramipril) (you're under medication).
