Does Residual Problem From Rheumatic Fever In Childhood Occur In Older Years?
Question: I am a 72 year old man, very active. I had rheumatic fever at the age of 5. I have had knee problems for a couple of years, however, my lower legs seem achy and not as strong as I like. I do not think it has to do with knee problems. My heart is fine as I have been an avid bicycler and have had no symptoms. I am wondering if there is a residual problem from rheumatic fever that occurs in older years. During the time of the fever, I lost all strength in my legs and my father had to carry me around.
