Does Poor Rey Figure Copy Score Indicate Mild Cognitive Impairment?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Why is the criteria for mci only one bad performance on a single test? For example I did poor on the rey figure copy but great on the ravlt. Does this mean I can be disgnosed with mci? Or is doctor disgresion used when diagnosing?

Brief Answer:
Doctor's opinion is important in MCI diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

I have read other discussions too.

There is no specific test that can be used to diagnose definitely Mild Cognitive Impairment ( MCI ).

If MCI is suspected, the Doctor will decide whether it is the most likely cause of your symptoms based on the information you provide and results of various tests.

So the Doctor's personal opinion is very important in confirming or not the diagnosis.

Regarding to overall score in MCI test, in my opinion yours is not the Mild Cognitive Impairment diagnosis.

Rey figure copy depends on your personal abilities too, besides cognitive impairment, repeating test after a month is advisable to correctly evaluate this part of the test.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.

Ive had multiple tests done. Ive scored highly on the ravlt (95th percentile), reverse digit span (98th percentile) forward digit span, memtrax, and the memory impairment screen. But I scored low on the moca the first time I did it, but the second time I scored 29. I mainly just scored low on the rofct and the 3 object 3 shapes test. I just cant really learn visual constructs. Is this more of a sign of a disability or mci? have you ever seen mci at my age (22)? do you think I have mci now knowing my test results? Thank you so much for your time.

Brief Answer:
MCI unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I think the inability to learn visual constructs is more a disability of yours than anything to do with MCI. ( mild cognitive impairment )

MCI is an "elderly" disease or " pre-Alzheimer's ", in young people doesn't exist as a diagnosis.

As I said before, both your age and test results exclude MCI as a diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Best regards.
