Does Intake Of Lipitor Result In Depression Problems?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Mar 2016
Question: I want to get off as many of the medications I am currently taking as I think they are making the problems with Depression/anxiety and lethargy worse. Especially Lipitor that I was put on for no reason other than the doctor said "If it was up to him it would be put in the water supply since the benefits are large and the downside little."

Which ones can I stop taking, or is there a ramp down schedule that should be followed.

Brief Answer:
Diazepam can be reduced and then you can take the drug on SOS basis

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Your current medicines are Lisinopril which is a blood pressure medicine, Atorvastatin which is a lipid lowering drug, Atenolol which is also a blood pressure medicine, Diazepam which is an anti anxiety drug, Lithium which is a mood stabiliser. Out of these drug if you want to stop the drugs then you have to do this by gradual reduction of doses.

If your blood pressure is stable then you can think of reducing one blood pressure medicine with discussion of your doctor. Lisinopril can be reduced in doses without any worries. Reduce the doses by reducing the dose to half. You can start taking the drug Diazepam on SOS basis. This would help in stopping one more drug.

Once you become free of two drugs then other drugs can be stopped depending upon your clinical condition.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.
