Does Herpes Infection Cause Bumps On Lips?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Mar 2016
Question: Hi! Ive NEVER had oral or genital herpes before, or cold sores. This bump appeared on my lip a couple days ago. When it scabs, its yellow but flakes off very easily. Underneath its a white-ish color. But its not a cankersore (at least like ive experjenced). Its EXTREMELY sore. Is this herpes? Or something else? How do i get rid of it?

Brief Answer:
appears to the herpes, herpes 1 is very common, use antiviral cream

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It appears to be oral herpes based on the image seen but it is only possible to confirm herpes with a blood test or smear of the area sent to the lab.

The blood tests are more common, you can consider one if you wish to definitely determine whether you have either of the herpes viruses.

This can be done whether a lesion is present at the time or not.

Herpes goes on its own, using a cream like abreva which is an antiviral cream might speed up resolution.
Using an anti inflammatory painkiller such as naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen would help with the pain.

Usually they resolve with no to minimal scarring.

Herpes 1 is the one that affects the mouth usually. It is very common, many persons may have herpes 1.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
frequency can vary

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it can come back but the exact time frame is not known.

Stress, use of excess citrus, impaired immune system (eg if fighting a cold), exposure to a lot of heat/sun can sometimes bring on an episode in some persons.

Some may have only one a year, others one episode every month, ,it can vary

Please feel free to ask anything else
