The excess gas &mucus release is due to stimulation of peristalsis as you insert finger in anus to dislodge the trapped hard stools.The hard stool at anus is also removed..&so the collected gas&mucus (caused by intestinal mucus membrane irritation ) following constipation .,is expelled out.
* It can not be said normal...as constipation is it's cause. We need to find the cause of constipation.
-It can follow faulty diet...may be excess diet with sedentary life style.
-Less fiber intake(from vegetables,salads fruit. XXXXXXX free flour for making bread.(chapati).Eating refined grains,pulses.
-Less water intake
-lack of regular exercises
. -Some intestinal infection (Amoebic/worms).. .needs to be investigated for.
-long standing diabetes can cause constipation
*I would suggest to undertake management of all the probable causes discussed above.
Drinking one spoon of clear butter with hot water at bed time would prevent hardening of stools.
Addition of specific needful treatment would reduce gas&mucus too.
*In this scenario,you should consult your doctor ..in case there is no improvement with undertaking life style changes

Thanks for the follow-up query.

In the management of constipation...it's essential to find out the basic cause of the condition..so that the management would be easy &curable If these causes are found&treated optimally.

After this one should go for the tedious test of anorectal manometry...This would investigate for organic normality of anal sphincter/spinal injury which has hampered the sensory nerve supply to the anus...which stimulates expulsion of feces.

So in my view, we should investigate for simpler things first..& go for a more complicated test like anorectal manometry only after exclusion of common causes OR in case of the known history of spinal injury in the lower spine.
