Does Colono Prep Cause UTI?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I had a colonoscopy at 65, no problems, (other than 3 polyps). Had another one last Sept., prep was double the amount of prep, night before and about 3am the morning of the test. Had my first uti 3 days after the test and have had 3 more since. I had never had a uti until 3 days after the test, at that time I was 71. Could the prep be the cause of my uti's?

Brief Answer:
Colono prep doesn't cause UTI;unless dehydration from diarrhea occurs...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I understand your concerns.

UTI can happen is there are present factors that would favorite its onset:
- changes in pH of the urine
- not consuming enough water
- holding urine, do not go to bathroom when you need to

With regards to the colono prep , it won't affect your Urinary tract and won't cause UTI.

Unless, the colono prep might have caused diarrhea, and consequent dehydration which might make you more prone to UTI.

Hope it answered to your question! Your other queries are most welcomed!
