Does A Dry Socket Take Long To Heal?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: Hello? I have a very painful extraction site 7 days post surgery. The site is bottom canine. The gum was VERY recessed and there was deep decay. I see minimal closure in fact buccaneers side it is a visible flap of my gum that is drooped over almost to the adjacent tooths region. I went in two days ago and dentist said 'oh it looks fine here and gave me some ointment.as I stated that's ointment was barely useful and I trusted it would be enough as he said so I didn't ask for a painkiller cause he said it's only five days out. Well now is almost 8 days and I am crying on bathroom floor screaming unable to take care of family dog and self. I just want some pain relief. Do u think the dentist should do that as everyone's healing processes are different. I have great insurance and feel poorly treated.

Brief Answer:
Looks like Dry Socket..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain in case if you have severe pain even after 8 days of extraction of your lower canine tooth and as per your explanation it looks like the extraction socket has not even healed and there is formation of Dry Socket..

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated..

In case if there is a dry socket formation then you will be given medicated dressings like Zinc oxide eugenol that will help in relieving pain as well as initiate healing...
It will be followed by a course of antibiotics like painkillers..

As of now you can take higher painkillers like Tramadol or Ketorolac if pain is severe after getting advised by emergency room as these are prescription drugs..
In case if the pain is moderate then Ibuprofen can also help..

Please write back for further queries..

Regards..
