Brief Answer:
PSA is a basic guidance value to carry out further tests to rule out cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

PSA is an enzyme secreted by Prostate it's normal value being 1-4 ng. Value of PSA more than 4 is always suspected to be due to Cancer of the Prostate unless proved otherwise by doing Ultrasound guided Biopsy of Prostate .

However PSA may rise during some benign conditions like Infection of Prostate (Prostatitis) and Enlargement of Prostate (BEP).

Single reading of raised PSA is not considered to be criteria to decide for doing biopsy .It is persistent raising level of PSA done at frequent interval of every month that is considered to demand for prostate biopsy .

Take medications like combination of Tomsulosin and Dutasteride once daily along with antibiotics like Leofloxacin for 2-3 weeks and repeat PSA test after three weeks If it still higher you will need to get biopsy of the prostate done to rue out or confirm the cancer of Prostate .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and Digital Rectal Examination(DRE) and further guidance as regards procedure of Prostate Biopsy .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
