Does Trans Vaginal Ultrasound Scan Gives More Accurate Results?
Question: Hi! I am wondering how accurate early on trans vaginal ultra sounds are. When I has my first ultra sound they said I was 6 weeks pregnant. I am just making sure they wouldn't be 3-4 off and I would be 8-9 weeks pregnant. Please help!

1) Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan gives more accurate and advanced result in compare to Trans Abdominal Scan. Basically, ultrasound scan reveals overall gross maturity of the fetus at the time of scanning. However, one week difference between actual gestational age (calculated from Last Menstrual Period) and ultrasound scan calculated age is considered NORMAL in early weeks of pregnancy.
2) Here, I suggest to repeat the Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan after 4 weeks from last scan (if your period cycle was IRREGULAR before pregnancy). It will be worthwhile to eliminate discrepancy and reveal overall growth and development of the growing fetus. Kindly, consult with your gynecologist regarding this.
