Does Pepto-Bismol Interact With Levothyroxine?
Question: I had a total Thyroidectomy 10 days ago and now taking Levothyroxine 100 mg. I am experiencing severe reflux symptoms and even two times esophageal spasms. Last night I took a pepto tablet 1 hour prior to taking the medicine to try to coat my stomach prior to taking the medicine.
Q. is there any drug reaction for pepto tablets and Levothyroxine. I am taking 20 mg BID of Omeprazole as well it just was not taking care of the severe reflux. The security is new since surgery.

Noted your concern.
Yes, pepto tablets and even omeprazole can reduce the absorption of levothyroxine. These medicines shouldn't be taken befor taking levothyroxine.
You may take them an hour after taking levothyroxine.
It may be good not to take any talets ( including vitamins and iron) at the same time of levothyroxine. But if you have severe spasms ans reflux, please continue with Omeprazole and Pepto until you meet the GI doctor. Some mal absorption of levothyroxine may occur, but it can be compensated later. Please give importance to your stomach complaints now. In infants and small kids, we advice moms to powder levothyroxine and give in milk or water. You may try that also for few days if swallowing a tablet in empty stomach is causng trouble.

Hi, what i actually meant was to crush the levothyroxine tablets and make it a powder and dissolve in water. You can do this way for few days. This is what we do in infants and very small kids.
