Question: Hello Doctor ,
I have UTI and started using Bactrim DS, that helped me in a past.
I took 2 pills today and felt better, however in a evening the symptoms worsen: frequency burning low abdominal pressure.
Can I switch to Macrobid, which I have?

Brief Answer:
Continue Bactrim DS as per prescription

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I think it is early for you to switch to macrobid. Bactrim is slow acting I agree but still the first choice for UTI. You should better take it for 5 days or what ever the prescribed days by your doctor. If I were your treating doctor I would have given you urinary analgesics as well like Pyridium. Please check with your doctor about this or any antispasmodics that can help you. The more clear water that you drink the dead bacteria can pass off quickly which can stop triggers of abdominal pain.

If this does not help after five days you can switch to Macrobid by speaking to your doctor.

Thank you. Hope this answers and is clear as well.
