Brief Answer:
yes,GERD can cause bleeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

GERD or esophagitis, peptic ulcer can cause bleeding and this usually causes vomiting bright red and you can't see the presence of blood in stool.
The presence of red blood in stool suggest that the source of the bleeding is in the lower gastrointestinal tract ,mostly from colon.
When the lesion of bleeding is localized in upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach) the blood in stool will be black (like tar ) and foul smelling.

GERD and acid reflux are not the cause for the presence of red blood in stool.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.I would be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

This is not related to GERD.
There are many possible causes for it like:
-hemorrhoids, intestinal polyps ,abnormal blood vessels in the lining of the intestines, colon diverticulum etc.

If you continue to have more episodes of blood in stool, you should consult your physician and get examined.Your doctor may even order an colonoscopy to determine the cause.

Take care.

Can it be colon cancer or a different cancer ? I am 26 years old

Answered by Dr. Dr. Rovena (7 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
it is unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

It is unlikely to be a malign disease ,considering your age,you don't have other symptoms.
Usually colon cancer doesn't cause visible red blood in stool. It causes occult blood in stool, which means microscopic bleeding.
I would suggest to consult a physician because a detailed medical history ,physical examination and few tests are necessary to understand the possible cause.
Physical examination can exclude anal fissures and hemorrhoid.
A test called occult blood stool tests.
If necessary a colonoscopy will be done for diagnosis.

Try not to get stressed out.The most likely causes are benign causes.

Take care.
