Does Dramamine Help To Treat Vertigo Dizziness?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I am experiencing the feeling of going over an incline on a roller-coaster ride while sitting still or moving my head side-to-side. Further, I am experiencing difficulty in regulating my body temperature: my skin feels clammy and sweaty as though I am in a humid atmosphere even though I am in cool, air conditioned air.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The sensation of movement either of the person or the environment is called vertigo.

Vertigo may be associated with clammy sensation.

Some persons may also have associated hearing loss, abnormal sounds such as ringing in the ears, headache and nausea.
These additional symptoms may or may not be present.

There are different possible causes but most commonly it is related to the inner ear.
The most common inner ear causes are: (1) benign paroxsymal positional vertigo (BPPV)- episodes lasts a few seconds, occur with certain head position.

Since occurs when moving your head from side to side, may be cause for you

Diagnosed in doctor's office when doctor puts your through certain maneuvers.

Treated with epley maneuver which is also done at your doctor

(2)meniere's disease-- would have associated hearing loss and abnormal sounds in the ears
Episodes lasts a few minutest to hours in some cases. Treated with low salt diet, diuretics

(3)vestibular neuronitis
Episodes last for hours. Medication used for a short period of time to help

Summary: (1) vertigo
(2)may be due to BPPV

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your response. I have a call in to my GP for a plan forward. Would taking a Dramamine tablet be of any help to alleviate the movement symptoms? Or any OTC med I could take?
i'm assuming a GP is the type doctor I need. can you advise?

Brief Answer:
yes, your GP would be fine

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the late reply

Yes, dramamine would help to relieve the vertigo.

Meds should be used for only a few days ( 3 to 5 )max because prolonged use can prevent or delay inner ear recovery,if related to inner ear.

Your GP should be able to diagnose the vertigo.
If suspects the BPPV, he or she should also be able to perform epley for you.

If suspects other causes such as the other inner ear causes or other causes then will initiate any other treatment

Please feel free to ask any other questions
