Question: Doctor, I have a brother, born 7/18/59, he was in a car wreck years back, he had a hip replacement, now needs another one, but since the accident he has ot been able to work, and is on SSI/Disability, BUT now there isn't a doctor around that will touch him as he is approximately 340 lbs. There is no losing weight for him, and is in constant severe pain 24/7. Please advise me, of anything or any direction we should go.

Brief Answer:
Treatment from a Dietologist is necessary first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Those values of body weight are considered as dangerous when it comes to surgery.

So, there is actually need for your brother to lose weight.

You should discuss with a Dietologist for these issues.

Physical activity and exercises also are encouraged.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
