Do Lungs Have Pain Receptors?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: Old thread died,

My waking has become later in the night, so I do get an additional hour or so before I wake.

Actually, you are helping.

Phone interview is after work today, I only look for jobs in the area of my home. My home is where my family and exwife live.

After the job interview today, I will go home to an empty house until late tonight. Everyone is going out of town for visit to ill mother in law.

Anyway I will make time to rest and in doing so i will write you a text. That has a tendency to relax me.

Tonight I will reply with my issues and reduction plan for your opinion so you can get angry or frustrated with me on repeat statements or sounding unbelieving but remember it is to be a plan of healing with what I will try to do.

You must be in good mood today while going home as your stressors (wife and children) will not be at home.
And my friend, I will try to control my anger. But Promise me that you won't feel bad even if I am angry and frustrated.
Are you promising me?

Oh I never get mad at you, I feel sheepish and embarrassed that i ask things that anger you. I know you are giving honest answers and you are sincere. I have a weak in my ability to overcome the wall or obsticle of anxiety and stress that dump mediators in my system and then cause my breathing to be labored and problematic. That recovery bouncing from slight recovery to the bad sensations trigger my thoughts to think bad. That is why your words are so helpful, They re establish the connection to know that it is only in my mind.

You may continue to get mad at me. What you cant do is just stop working with me....Please. Your words whether angry or sympathetic are very important to help me get to improvement. Even when I slip back and have to start over. WE will get better, im just afraid that it will take until i move back home to get full improvement.

I get to drive a fair distance to go to band rehearsal each weekend. In that time I pass the trip with thoughts of recovery techniques. Yesterday, I tried to figure when this truly began and I think I have been anxious more than normal, all my life. Severe anxiety has been the last 15 years or so. . So lots to recover and overcome

I have not said this yet but my biggest fear or anxiety is to continue to feel the SOB sensations I get when I do certain things that trigger the panic mediators, not the simple out of breath triggers after I get better or to have them the rest of my life.

Job phone interview was great. Of course this was a pre interview to see if they want to see me in their office. I'll hear sometime next week

Triggers? Usually it's simple things or things that I once did and now when I do the same, they trigger breathing issues
Climbing stairs and unable to speak comfortably when I arrive at top of steps
Moving quickly across the room to answer an ringing phone
Watching people out running and feeling out of breath just thinking of me running
The abdominal pressure that I have causing breathing discomfort

Tonight I did a second night of short distance bicycle riding. Felt a little better but still a long road to travel to get better. Helped with the abdominal pressure

Lately, I keep thinking of a certain day from a few years ago when I was out riding the bike in the neighborhood and I made note of my breathing or lack of problems breathing other than the usual increased breaths as I exercised. I just disappeared overnight

I let my prior breathing sob attacks stay in my mind and wonder sometimes if I am or will slowly lose the ability to take a breath like those with lung disease. Those prior events I question why they took place. Were they stress related, had I built up a high level,of stress and then I focused on my mother so much that I made note of my breathing and caused that to be the point of my mediator attacks.

I've had too many things cause me panic mediator releases over the past few years. Oh at times I would like to open the airways up and take deep breaths slow and relaxing so that I can dump the stress. Maybe soon

Oh I have a stress attack tonight that I am working on. I have to give an employee review tomorrow morning and I am not psychologically prepared. Stress is up.

Why you are stressed when it is not your review?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the long story of yours and could imagine your situation ad well.
In my opinion, you were also having stress in the past. But it was mostly undiagnosed and unnoticed.
And I can't understand why you are stressed when it is not related to you.
You have to give some one else's review. So you are like boss. So why you are stressed in this?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I am stressed because I do not like having to discuss bad or negative issues. I mentioned before that I don't like confrontation

Question for you, lungs have no pain receptors, is that correct? If so when I have constructed airways from inflammation I get a pang of pain every so often when I take. Breath in and I reach the point of no more allowed in. These inhales are when I feel tight int He chest and can only take in a limited constricted breath.

What may be this bit of pain I feel. It seem more in the throat than lungs but I can't tell for sure.

Is the stress that I have doing things to my main airway

Brief Answer:
Yes, lungs are notified having pain receptor.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right. Lung tissue (parenchyma) is not having pain receptor.
But bronchi (air tubes) are having pain receptor.
Lungs are surrounded by two pleural layers.
1. Visceral pleura (pain insensitive)
2. Parietal pleura (pain sensitive).
So pain in your case is mostly due to irritation of bronchi or Parietal pleura.
Possibility of irritation and inflammation of bronchi is causing you pain and tightness sensations.
Not sure about main Airway.
Actually I am not understanding your main Airway symptoms.
Do you have choking sensations?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks

The response helps greatly, it give an understanding to the strange bit of pain i get every so often when I breath in and reach the end of the inhale. If the bronchi has pain receptors and the inflammation is constricting air in and out and and when I take a breath in and its limited by the constricting and that the bronchi is affected by the inflammation, that give a whole new light to my issues.

I dont think i directly spoke of airways other than the constriction and limited inflow and at the end of it I get the bit of pain when I get the last bit of inflow.

I think this knowledge will help me to relax and get better.

Lets talk of Last night. good and bad night. I went to bed early, So tense on the review for today and the arrival home of the step family that was going to be late, I never fell asleep as I wanted, I got only 6 hours of sleep. in the old days that was satisfactory, now trying to get better I need 8.

I did my morning ride to work and felt improved slightly and am in a better working attitude. Lets hope it continues.

I also want to thank you for contemplating the time I have had Stress and Anxiety and to what degree i have had it and how it has increased over the years.

Knowing that took time to build up, I think that the stress to the entire body has taken a beating. Right now its my lungs that I need to repair to the best I can, I hope the stress has caused no irreperable damage. this stress has inflammed airways, and bronchi and caused mental thinking to continue it.
After I reduce the lungs, I should work on completeing the repair by working on the rest of the body.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely focus more on lungs at present because it is the main symptom at present.
And yes, you should build yourself to fight against stress and anxiety.
Don't think too much about stress, anxiety, inflammation, bronchi etc.
All these will give you more stress.
So be relaxed and calm. Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Had a very high amount of anxiety today, the reviews, the drive to go visit with psychiatrist, the usual stress.

I used drive time to distract thoughts and relax by listening to audio book

Got home and ate a small meal then went on a bike ride. I increased distance ridden from yesterday's ride by 25% more.

While riding I noticed the burning sensation in my throat you get when breathing hard exercising. At first it triggered anxiety and kicked out some mediators but then I thought about it and considered it to be poor exercise habits and out of conditioning. This relaxed me some and calmed down

As I did a cool down from ride ( actually I was cooling off, it's 95 degrees farenheight out side) I viewed a TV movie. In it, a star did a humorous dying scene with a long exhale as he died. I decided to try it and could only get half of what he did before it triggered a mediator release.

I mention all that to say that I hope that my failure to exhale in length was due to the inflammation and all of today's triggers. I am going to go to bed but will think like I did while biking and see if it lessens the anxiety.

I need to be aware of doing things that can trigger another increase in mediators before I can get this under control.

I did visit with ba psychiatrist today. It's the same one I have seen for a year now. She is retiring so I have to find a new one. Probably for the best, it only provided a refill on my prescriptions. I got more help talking with you.

I had to do two employee reviews today. One at 10 am then 2nd at 2pm. Then had to leave work at 4 to drive 55 minutes to see psychiatrist. Go go go go go all day

Why the reviews were stressful to you?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Oh, I thought you visited new psychiatrist today.
I am still not understanding why giving reviews cause so much stress on you?
If you are being reviewed then stress and anxiety are likely to develop but in this case you are giving reviews on some others. I don't find any stressor in this.
Please explain this to me.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
