Do Cortozone Injections Adversely Affect Blood Test Report?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: Can receiving cortozone injections in both knees and/or applying a topical corticosteroid cream directly on the testicles to prevent itching within 12 hours of a blood test for microalbubim/creatine ratio adversely affect the results? My UR Creatine was 160, the microalb/creat ratio was 338.1, and the UR microalbumin, random was 54.1. All of these tests were markedly increased from just 5 months ago.

Brief Answer: Can you be clear Detailed Answer: Hi Did you give the tests and then received the injection and applied cortisone cream to testicles or vice versa? Which one is earlier testing or taking injections? If the tests were markedly increased for 5 months there is definitely wrong with the kidney function. One shot of injection or application would not adversely affect the results. Urine albumin/creatinine ratio is the first indicator of kidney function. Chronic use of steroids would affect the function as well. I suggest a Nephrologist referral in such a case to look for damage and prevent the damage to the kidney further.

I had the injections the day before the urine sample was taken and applied the topical cream the night before as well. I was also dehydrated as I thought I could have nothing to eat or drink for 12 hours prior to the test including water. I was worried I might not be able to produce enough urine for a midstream sample and just started collecting from the first stream. Might these have affected the results?

Brief Answer: Single doses would not greatly affect results Detailed Answer: Hi Thank you for clarification. All the above would not greatly affect the urine sample. If the results are doubtful one can repeat the test and confirm.
