Question: Dear Doctor,

My father is 62 and having high blood pressure since more than 15 years. He has been under Asomex and Losartan for almost 8 to 10 years now. I wanted to get a suggestion from you regarding the Covid vaccine . Wanted to know from you if both the available vaccines(Covishield and Covaxin) are safe for him provided he has blood pressure and he is on the above mentioned medicines. I had asked you a question before regarding my father's pedal edema.

Your valuable suggestion will guide us to taking the vaccine.

Brief Answer:
Yes you can opt for either of the vaccine

Detailed Answer:
Hello, i went through your query and would be happy to help.
Patients with history of hypertension and/or diabetes (not in your case) can take covid vaccine without any worry. Both covishield and covaxin are equally efficient for their purpose but covaxin is slightly better in ways of lesser side effects like bodyache and malaise which usually lasts for 1 or 2 days. Either way, he will have to take a paracetamol tablet post vaccination for 1 day which should be sufficient.
I hope I have answered your query. Feel free to write back if have any questions.
Hope it helps.
Thank you

Thank you doctor for your valuable information.
Doctor, I have attached an echo report of my father. The report is old( last year before pandemic began).
Seeing the report, the doctor said nothing to worry. But , there is a point where it said - Concentric LV Hypertrophy.

Wanted to know from you if there is something of concern. And when should we next have echo done.

Brief Answer:
No action required

Detailed Answer:
Hello again, I went through the echo report you uploaded. Concentric LVH is on borderline as the wall thickness in the reports in marginally increased. This finding is usually seen in patients with hypertension. Do not worry about the report. With regular medications the progression might halt. You may repeat echo after 6 months from now and ideally should be done once every year.
Hope this helps.
Thank you
