Brief Answer:
I don't think he had JC virus.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The JC virus gives brain infections only in persons with low immune system. This means he could have brain infections if he is suffering HIV/AIDS, have chemotherapy, suffers leukemia or hodgkin lymphoma or bone marrow diseases etc.The doctors should have done an MRI to diagnose it and maybe a spinal tape. This infection may even be deadly.
The fact that stroke did gave him disabilities maybe was a transitory ischemic attack well managed .I dont think he had JC vurus.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.

On July 4 Charles had a heart attack and stroke. This in answer to the first response. No, I don't agree that he doesn't have JC virus. As a young woman I worked with stroke victims. Charles doesn't look or act like he had a,'typical stroke. Neither side of his body is paralyzed. The doctors couldn't find a blood clot. After five days he was released. His cousin told us about JC virus because she has it. After looking it up he has most of the symptoms. One story was about a lady that had JC virus, she didn't have MS, Aids, or any other Disease that would compromise the immune system. He has had two outbreaks of shingles and one that was stopped with the anti-virus medicine. The second one was stopped with the July 4 incident, The hospital woulden't let him take the anti-virus Medicine. A week after getting home he had what is called widespread shingles per the CDC. If the doctors aren't familiar with widespread shingles look it up. Widespread shingles doean't look like typical shingles it resembles chickenpox. We went back to the hospital and the doctor said yup widespread shingles. From what I have found about shingles and the JC virus it looks Charles has a compromised immune system. We have dealt with doctors about his pancreas. Ten years of problems till an interne 'said if he had pancreas problems he would have back pain'. It took a student to say it's his pancreas after we both responded to he' does have back pain. A student doctor figured out his problem. Since Charles has been on Enzymes all his problems disappeared like magic. We are a little skeptical of Doctors after his problems. We have been married 54 years and I don't wont some virus that they don't understand to take him out. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
jc virus is possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
From what you described you are saying he has a compromised immune system , causing shingels so possibility of having jc virus are greater.
If he had stroke would come in MRI.
if he had heart attack would come in ekg or ultrasound.
There is no specific treatment for jc virus.
Wishing him good health.
Best regards.

When he had the widespread shingles the hospital sent home a paper about shingles. With the widespread he has a total of five two outbreaks and one that was suppressed with the anti-virus medicine. XXXXXXX the 30 he was diagnosed with shingles again and then on July 4 he had the heart attack and stroke. The hospital refused to give him the anti-virus medicine. Four days after getting home he had the widespread shingles. His Doctor didn't know about widespread shingles. I found it on the computer. I took him to the hospital yes the one that wouldn't give him the medicine. Somebody should tell the Doctors about this type of shingles. It doesn't look like typical shingles but like chickenpox. The CDC should get this out. One article said it looks like a shotgun hit him and it did. The CDC should do there job and let Doctors know about this Widespread shingles. They could put out a press release about this type of shingles. From what I have read having shingles more than once could mean a compromised immune system. I fought like hell while trying to get him the Enzyme that has change his life and mine. What is wrong with his pancreas? That is the 64 thousand dollar question. Now it looks like there is a new fight. CDC DO YOUR JOB WHAT DO WE PAY YOU FOR? XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Pancreatic enzymes can be checked and MRI too

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
The pancreatic function can be evaluated by measurements of enzymes in blood.
Also endoscopic ultrasound can be done.
MRI can be done too.
Your doctor may do an examination of spinal fluid for jc virus. If the JC virus is in this fluid, he has PML. If not, he may need a biopsy or other tests to find out for sure.
Best regards.
