Question: Cardiology Specialist
Dear Doctor, Namaste. My wife is 72 year old and has diabetes since 2012.Her Diabetes is under control all these years.Recently we have been to ortho paedic hospital here for knee replacement surgery.During the routine tests done prior to surgery, the cardilogist found from 2D Echo of my wife and said that she has rehumatoid heart disease and mitral valve is involved. He has asked about the symptoms .But there are no symptoms which related to RHD for my wife. This was by chance found.Asymptomatic RHD.As there are no symptoms, the doctor said that this might be there since a long time.
I am forwarding the 2D echo report and connected ECG .Kindly go through them and advise

She takes glycephege Sr 500 ,Telma 40 mg,amtas 2.5 mg, Ecosprin Av 75.

Kindly give your opinion regarding this problem and advise

1.whether we have to go for valve replacement in the coming months and whether she can withstand the surgery at this age.
2.Or whether the problem can be treated with medicines.
3.Since we have no problem with this at any time during all these years, can we ignore the disease.
.

Please dont think other wise and with patience kindly answer my questions.

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Apologies for the delayed response. After going through the Echo report, I would like to tell you that surgery is imminent at some point of time. There is no emergency as she is asymptomatic.

Medicines can help upto a certain extent but cannot give a permanent cure.

She is fortunate that she hasn’t developed any significant symptoms till date but ignoring won’t help.

Kindly consult a cardiologist personally and get her started on required medications.

Thanks and Regards
