Can Whistling While Exhaling And Excess Phlegm Indicate Chronic Bronchitis?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Aug 2018
Question: I have a subtle breathing whistling many nights and have had excess phlegm for years consistently. The phlegm seems to cause a cough periodically usually for the first 20 mins most nights some nights it lasts for 1 hr or so. In the morning I usually cough up some phlegm and maybe 2-3 times a day. It is more of a long term thing used to be 20 years ago I would clear my throat every 3-5 minutes but I stopped that a few years ago and just traded that for the current. Summer is usually better than winter. I do have cold induced ashma and a pro air for that. Just wondered about chronic bronchitis or sinitus or whatever

Brief Answer:
please do the following tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

Yes i can understand your concern

If you were my patient for evaluating the lungs for chronic bronchitis there are some tests which need to be done such as: a chest X Ray and a Spirometry with bronchodilatators. If they have sings of bronchitis probably mucolitics and nebulizer with bronchodilatators might be added in your current treatment (like budesonide twice ).For sinusitis a chest of sinuses give the info if it is present or not.

However a gastric reflux may be another cause and in such case Omeprazol twice orally helps.

You can discuss with your doctor for the above or if you do the above you can attach me the results and i will try to help you again.

Regards and feel free to ask me again
