Can Uterine Fibroids Affect Fertility?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I was diagnosed with posterior wall fibroid which is in size 56x41MM. My periods are regular, but mostly heavy bleeding and painful. Do you think I have any chances to get conceive and if I conceive what are the chances for miscarriage.

So far I tried 6 failed IUI's. Do you think IVF will work for me? I am attaching my ultrasound report with question.

Brief Answer:
Conception with fibroid

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for writing to HCM

According to your scan - there is a posterior wall fibroid - over 5 cm. I will suggest you get a hysterscopy done and see if there is any problem with the fibroid coming into the uterine cavity. Surgical intervention may be required based on hysteroscopy finding. Your consultant will be able to help you with this

The second point - you have had 6 IUI. Your husband's sperm parameters might have to be reassessed again before deciding the next course of treatment.

Please note that miscarriage rates are around 10 - 15% in women who have fibroids coming into the uterine cavity

Hope your questions are answered
