Question: Can traumatic injury to the lumbar spine cause lower limb hemiparesis while leaving total functionality of the other limb?

traumatic injury to the spine with one limb compromised is most likely a nerve entrapment to the extent of nerve cutting or shattering which has resulted in this motor functions of the limbs compromised and is very common in such orthopaedic injuries and yes the other limb can be spared at a time. It depends on the type of injury and impact on the foramen at spines from where nerves arise from.
Had it been a human so a neurosurgeons and an orthopaedist and spine specialists team would have devised some plan to make sure of the nerve safety and re activity with some physical therapies and interventions.But now that it is a pet and a vet case, makes it wholly solely different case some thing which i don't have any idea about. You need to seek a help of a fellow vet who has expertise in this field.
