Biopsy ossifying fibroma.
Would like to know if the artificial plates need to be removed..
I am Attaching my latest prsecription and x ray done on march2018
I am on medication shelcal hd, Telsar 40 mg, nicardia 5 mg , x met sr 1gm and thyronorm 62,5 mg.
Could keeping the plates for lifelong could cause complication.
Titanium plate was used.
My local doctor is saying total formation of bone in lower part of femur is yet to form and so he will not remove the plates now

Brief Answer:
Detail below.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Implants in the bone need to remove if they are causing a problem, keeping the plate lifelong will not causing any problem.
Since bone in the lower part of the femur is not formed so you should not think for removal of the plate, keep the plate for life long.

You should also continue the prescribed medicines under the supervision of your doctor.

I hope this answers your query.

What medication apart frpm Shelcal HD can lead to more quick bone formation.

What are the complications that can arise if i keep the plate lifelong

I am 39 year old male

2 years have passed since the operation so what would be the appropriate age for which the removal of plate can be done.

Follow up x ray should be done 3 monthly, 6 monthly, or yearly

Brief Answer:
The multivitamin and multimineral supplement will help.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

In addition to Shelcal HD, you can also have a multivitamin and multimineral supplements like Revital or Absolute 3G. Keeping the plate lifelong is not likely to arise any problem apart from occasional pain or arthritic changes but these can happen even after the rod is removed.

The plate should be removed only if the bone has properly healed and the plate itself is causing any pain or discomfort. Otherwise, another surgery to remove the plate can be avoided.
Now that two years have passed you can get a follow-up X-ray done every year if there are no symptoms.

Hope my answer is helpful.
