Can Stress Cause Low Blood Pressure And Pulse Rate?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Jun 2017
Question: my blood pressure has always been low with a low pulse rate (45-50). on my normal visit for my Remicade treatment I receive every 8 weeks the Nurse checked my blood pressure at first and it was 154/110 (The highest it has ever been)
Ive had a lot of stress at work the 2 previous weeks. Could this cause the spike in blood pressure since then it has been around 127-134 over the high eighties or mid nineties for the last 4 days

Brief Answer:
one reading alone shouldnt be used to label hypertension

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Yes, stressful daily routines can influence blood pressure. A relaxed mindset and meditation related activities such as deep breathing exercises have a positive effect on the blood pressure. On the other hand lack of sleep and stress can worsen it.

One reading alone cant be taken to start on antihypertensive medication. Home BP monitoring can be done to look for a BP level persistently above 140/90. The readings should be correlated in the doctors office to rule out the possibility of white coat hypertension.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
