Question: hi. i have osteoarthritis in my hips (early stages). can other joints be affected too? i have pain in both my knees and my wrists. my knees crack and grind qnd i have very bad pain when walking up stairs in both my knees. i get severe pain flares when the weather changes and experience pain in my ankles and hands too. ive had xrays done which have shown nothing in the knees and hands. i have fibromyalgia and Syringomyelia and asthma. thank you.

Hello,

Yes, osteoarthritis does affect the other joints as well.

However, if the X-ray findings didn't reveal anything further evaluation should be done (MRI scans of the knee). The wrist joint may or may not be related to this though...At this outset, a few other tests (eg. Hemogram, ESR, CRP, Rh factor and Uric acid levels) should be done to rule out any associated Rheumatological component.

Please note, Fibromyalgia itself is associated with generalized body ache while Syringomyelia can cause also the pain in certain areas of nerve supply (depending on the extent and spinal level where it's affected).
