Can One Ejaculate With An Indwelling Catheter?
Question: I am recovering from major surgery, performed about 26 days ago. Since then, I have not been able to urinate. I have been under my urologists care and been cathetered twice with a Foley catheter by him. He believes it is due to BPH. I have had soe problems, and been on FLOMAX and daily Ciallis, but never has anything like complete blockage before. If I can't void when checked (about 7 days from now), he says either two choices, - continue to catheter or prostate surgery. Due to the surgery, it is probably over a month since I had ejaculation. Thus i am wondering if backed up fluids in the prostate could be aggravating things. I am wondering if either prostate massage (gentle) with the catheter in would be potentially harmful, and/or if ejaculation while the catheter is out should be attempted. I am assuming ejacualtion or discharge around the catheter is OK, but masturbation or activity involving the penis with the catheter in could cause pain or irritation to the urethra and not be a good idea. What do you think?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have developed retention of urine after major surgery the nature of which you have not mentioned in your statement .
I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Did you have obstructive voiding symptoms like frequency for urination ,urgency .nocturnal frequency , poor stream etc prior to undergoing the major surgery ?.
2) Was your Ultrasound Scanning of the abdomen done before surgery ?
It is very common at old age to get retention of urine after major surgery and in most of the cases it is due to bladder outlet obstruction due to enlarged prostate.
Since you have been catheterized twice it is most unlikely that you will be able to pass urine after removing the catheter .I would suggest you to get investigated by Urologist and get the surgery of TURP done to clear off the obstruction.rather than putting a cateter which involves danger of getting UTI and multiple problems .
As regards masturbation and ejaculation with catheter in urethra .Please refrain from masturbating as there is risk of damaging urethra .

I had lumbar spinal fusion. There were symptoms as you described prior to surgery. I had some dribbling after urination, weak stream, sense of not being able to completely empty, also had some ED. Had started with Viagra for ED, then Tamulosin was added for for Urinary problems. Found Tamulosin interfered with sexual activity. Switched to Ciallis daily. Was on that up to surgery. No Ultrasound before surgery. Went to urologist first time after surgery when couldn't void. Ultrasound showed full bladder, and drained 3000 cc out of me immediately on 1st catheter. On void test, also 3/4 full after 6 hours and also immediately drained on reinsert of catheter.
I wasn't suggesting masturbation for the reason you state. And I still see the urologist. I was thinking prostate massage might be a way to open things up, and if i could try it over the next week, and it might be a low risk way of getting things to move. I doubt anything will move and TuRP is the choice if it doesn't, but I thought prostate massage might stand a chance to get things to move and could be done without interfering with the catheter. I specifically was thinking of using an Aneros device to massage it. My wife was suggesting ejacualation after the catheter was out, but before the void test. So do you specifically see a potential problem with the prostate massage or masturbation without the catheter in?
