default
Posted on Fri, 13 Nov 2015
Question: Hi, I have been coughing up green mucus for about 10 days, now I have started blowing yellow mucus out of my nose, I was prescribed Augmentin 2 days ago does that seem like the right antibiotic to be on and if so how long will it take to start clearing up the mucus? Is it normal to be coughing up stuff for 10 days already and can I have a sinus infection and bronchitis at the same time? How long does both last?

Brief Answer:
Yes, sinusitis and bronchitis can present simultaneously.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, bronchitis and sinusitis can present simultaneously.
Both are having common etiology, infection.
So one can actually predispose other.
Usual time of recovery is 7-10 days.
Augmentin is good antibiotic for respiratory tract infection.
Ideally it should be given for 7-10 days.
So in my opinion, you should continue Augmentin for total 1 week duration. If you are not improving after 1 week Augmentin then consult doctor and get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection (pneumonia).
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
