Brief Answer:
People can definitely be allergic to pineapple:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am sorry your boyfriend doesn't believe you, but pineapple can definitely be an allergen. There are several potential allergens in pineapple and throat swelling is a definite allergic reaction.

Here is a link with information about allergenic fruits and the components in them that susceptible people can react to: http://farrp.unl.edu/informallfruit

Some foods are more frequent allergens, such as peanuts and nuts, but any of the fruits listed can be allergens to some people.

I hope this information helps. You should not risk eating anything with pineapple if you have a history of throat swelling in reaction to it.

thank you so much! finally someone who understands! can't wait for him to see this when he wakes up! my older sister and I are both allergic to it but both mom and dad are not! I didn't became allergic until I was 7. it first started with XXXXXXX D then Hawaiian pizza (which was a favorite) an now everything. sometimes if I have too much oranges or strawberries my mouth will tingle so I'll stop but with pineapple even the tiniest bite or juice its really all bad. I so appreciate this and it makes me happy I have proof that I'm not lying and it shows Google isn't always accurate! so thank you again for coming to my rescue! god bless always

Brief Answer:
About allergies:

Detailed Answer:
Some people have predispositions to developing allergies, while others do not. The capacity for developing allergies does not dictate which things people in the same family will be allergic to. I have seen identical twins who both have allergies, but one is allergic to nuts and the other to shellfish. They both inherited the capacity to develop allergies after being sensitized.

People who develop allergies to a particular thing can sometimes start out with milder reactions. They have to be sensitized to the particular food allergen, pollen, mold or other allergen. So there is usually a previous exposure that results in future bigger reactions. As a result of previous exposures that were "sensitizing", the body has antibodies with memory to that allergen and when re-exposed to it, the antibodies "remember" and multiply and go after that particular allergen. This causes the classical allergic responses of inflammatory chemicals being released.

Brief Answer:
Artificial pineapple

Detailed Answer:
Yes, pineapple flavored things that don't actually have pineapple in them also don't have the components of pineapple that are allergenic.
