Can Moles Reoccur After Being Removed Surgically?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question: I had a mole in my hairline that I had since I was a kid (31 now) removed surgically 2 years ago. It came back benign when they biopsied it.The other day I happened to brush my hair back and saw that it was back. I can't tell if it looks suspicious, but it's the same size and shape that it was before. Should I get it looked at again? Do moles come back that were cut out? Does it look normal?

Brief Answer:
I've it looked at. Doesn’t look suspicious. Monitor for any further changes

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this recurrent mole. I have reviewed the attached images and they don’t look any suspicious.

It is not uncommon to have recurrent moles after excision, especially for moles from birth as the cell changes are often intrinsic.

I will recommend you get it looked into and the baseline characteristics noted. I will not recommend excision at this time. However, if there is an increase in size, color changes, itches or onset of pain, seek further evaluation and maybe an excision biopsy.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Regards
