Brief Answer:
Can be related to bursitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The pain in the shoulder on getting up in the morning can be due to extreme extension of the arm above the head while sleeping. You can start with a mild pain killer like Aleve after meals and do a hot compress in the painful area. Application of local analgesic gel or a local muscle relaxant gel will also help. This should subside in next 2-3 days. In case the pain is severe or persistent then you may need to consult an orthopedician and get oral muscle relaxants prescribed.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Wishing you good health.
