Can Itching And Burning Blisters On The Foot After Tick Bites Be Completely Cured?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2022
Question: I was bitten by a tick 3 days ago on the sole of my foot. The tick was removed completely, including head (seen under magnification). A blister formed, now is size of a grape. Was seen in urgent care, given Doxycycline 200 mg, one time dose. Blister continues, itches, burns, is painful to walk on, is increasing in size. No fever or expanding redness. I have Betadine and neosporin ointment. I can keep it clean and covered. I would like to open it to release the pressure. Are there Lyme disease symptoms I should be aware of?

Brief Answer:
Lyme disease is very less likely with current presentation.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, there is very less likely possibility of Lyme disease as
there is no joint stiffness or severe muscle cramps in your case.

* It sounds that doxycycline is not effective against the causative pathogen.

* My recommendations at present

- With sterile needle, you can open up the center of the blister and with aseptic
precautions, internal content should be drained out.
- Apply sterile dressing with betadine ointment.
- Need prescription of further antibiotic as azithromycin or others with your family doc
for faster recovery.
- Anti histamine as Benadryl will take care of itching and paracetamol can safely be
consumed for pain control.
- Avoid walking bare foot and prefer soft slippers to be used at present.

Hope this will help you to recover faster. Feel free to ask further doubts. Follow up recommended after 24 hours or early as per the requirement.
Regards
