Brief Answer:
You can try 2 % Ketoconazole shampoo

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you are concerned about dandruff.

1. Nizoral contains 1 % Ketoconazole. This is an over-the-counter product. To treat dandruff effectively, 2 % Ketoconazole is recommended. Use it alternate days for 2-3 weeks initially. Thereafter, you can keep the dandruff under check by using it once weekly. They are not associated with side effects like hair fall and are safe on long term use.

2. Most of the commercially available shampoos have chemicals. Even herbal shampoos have a chemical ( surfactant) as its base. This surfactant is the one which gives lather to a shampoo/ soap. These days, SLS is not used by most companies. Instead Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate (SLES) is the surfactant most commonly used. It is milder compared to SLS. You could look for a shampoo containing SLES and Cocamidobetaine as the top ingredients ( listed in the first 5 in the ingredients list). These shampoos are generally milder. If you want to avoid chemicals completely, you could use home based products like soapnut powder, methi, etc. But they are harsh on the scalp and may not cleanse off the oil completely.

Hope this helps you and answers your queries.

Take care.

Dr. Johny Chacko
