Can I Have Macrodantin And Doxy At The Same Time For UTI?
Question: I suspected Klebsiella UTI. U/A c/w UTI.Started Macrodantin pending C+S results.
>100,000 col of Klebsiella pneumonia, sensitive to TCN. The MCN is working clinically. I don't want to stop it. I suspect I have beta lactamase producing Klebsiella. Can I take both the MCN and the DOXY at the same time to cover all sp of Klebsiella at once.?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have UTI and urine culture has revealed causative organisms to be Klebsiella Pneumoniae detected sensitive to Tobramycin .
Though you have already started Macrodantin and getting results ,it is always safe to start appropriate antibiotic as per sensitivity pattern .This will help to control the infection very quickly .

Dr XXXXXXX I have an.additional question. My medical hx identify me as having a"complicated" UTI.(diabetic, cystocele-retention issues. Also this is 4th UTI in 9months. I am allergic to PCN, Keflex, Levoquin, Bactrim/Septra. Treating these Infections has been difficult. I can.only take Macrodantin or Tetracycline/Doxycycline. Today, I finished 1week of Doxycycline for Klebsiella p. My question: given this hx of multiple UTI's, complicated UTI, resistant to MCN, and my.drug.allergies and I.have Stage 3 CKD---I think I should go on maintainance therepy for awhile and/or prophylactic Rx before intercourse.
