Can Feeling Of Lump/dry Spot In Throat Be Caused By

Question: Can feeling of lump/dry spot in throat be caused by lifting heavy weights (squats with barbell on back) with C5/C6 slippage? I notice it more the day after I lift, minor pain runs on right side, neck to shoulder. I’m a hypo — on Buspar — non-smoker, healthy weight and diet. It’s gotten better over time ... and I took antibiotic for sinus/ear infection a couple of weeks ago which improved it as well. Recent fender bender 3 weeks ago too.

Brief Answer:
Please specify the duration of this feeling.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask a Doctor service.

I have read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Feeling a lump can sometimes be due to lifting heavy weights, but it should not persist for more than a few hours.

It is more likely to be a remnant of the recent sinus/ear infection.

Inflammation of the throat can cause such a feeling of lump/dry spot.

If you could tell me the duration of this feeling, and specify if it was present before you had had the sinus/ear infection or if it developed with the sinus infection or later, it would be helpful.

Continue your diet and lifestyle.

Do salt water gargling 3 times a day for 3 days.

Do steam inhalation 3 times a day for 3 days.

You should start seeing some improvement.

Hope this addresses your concern, feel free to write back to me.

Best wishes.

It’s been about 5-6 weeks. At that time, mold/hayfever allergies were very high so I attributed it to that. At that time, it was 4-5 out of 10.

Took Amoxicillin 10 days 3-4 weeks ago and it improved greatly.

Now, it’s about 1-2 out of ten. Very minor ear pressure, tongue/neck/ shoulder pain on right side with the dry feeling.

Im a bit of a hypochrondriac so I try not to check everything. If I did, I’d never get put of doc’s office!!!

Brief Answer:
Relax, does not sound alarming at all. Will subside sooner.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the clarification.

It is quite evidently due to the mold/hayfever you had earlier.

Realx, it will soon be better.

You just need to follow the advise I gave earlier of steam inhalation and salt water gargling.

Do not overthink anything, you are recovering very well.

You will feel better soon.

Best regards.
