Can Bladder Infection Cause Lower Abdominal Pain?
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
Bladder infections usually cause frequency of needing to urinate, and pain before and during urination. If it is an uncomplicated bladder infection, there usually isn't pain anywhere else in the abdomen other than in the bladder area.
Bladder infections can sometimes turn to kidney infections, and these can cause pain in the abdomen, but more typically in the flanks (kidney area - near the waist at the back). There is also fever, nausea, and just feeling poorly.
To diagnose these, going in to the clinic/dr's. office and giving a urine specimen is best for a suspected bladder infection, and imperative for a kidney infection symptoms.
Lower abdominal pain can be from a number of things including gastrointestinal problems, or pelvic organ problems. Stones in the urinary tract (bladder, ureters, kidney) can also cause pain anywhere along it's course.
The risk of urinary tract stones or infection can be increased by your recent history of long flights, especially if urination was delayed more than usual.
I'm sorry I can't say specifically what is going on without doing an exam, but if he pain persists or worsens, or is severe now, then do go in to be seen.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
